Certain tree species, such as Walnut and Birch, benefit from being pruned at specific times of the year. If you are in any doubt please phone our offices where a member of staff will be happy to advise you. Tree ProtectionBefore work can commence on your tree it is essential that the local planning authority/council tree officer be contacted to check whether or not your tree is protected with a Tree Preservation Order or is growing in a Conservation Area. Advanced Tree Services Ltd will provide this service free of charge on acceptance of quotation. Tree PruningThere are many ways of pruning and a list of methods used and an explanation of what is achieved follows. Formative PruningPruning to encourage the establishment of a good branch structure and canopy appropriate to the species concerned by the removal of potential defects such as co-dominant leaders and crossing branches leaving only small, quickly occluding wounds. Crown LiftingRemoval of all soft growth and branches or parts thereof resulting in a desired vertical clearance above ground level or other surface. This may be from ground level or a roof to the point of origin of the lowest remaining branch or the lowest remaining foliage. PollardingThe removal of all branches leaving just the trunk which is used as a last resort for a damaged tree or to reduce the uptake of water, in some cases. Crown ThinningCrown thin by removal of a proportion of the small secondary live woody growth, taking care to retain the framework branches, to reduce the leaf area of the canopy by a given percentage. The aim of crown thinning is to produce an even canopy of foliage on a well spaced, balanced and sound framework of limbs and branches, typical for the species or variety of tree. Crown ReductionPruning the complete outline dimension of the canopy by a given percentage, from the tips of limbs and branches toward the main trunk, by pruning growth to an appropriately sized lateral branch, twig or bud to leave a flowing silhouette. A high proportion of the foliage bearing structure is retained, which is important for the vitality of the tree. Tree Felling & Stump RemovalThe complete removalof a dead or deceased tree to prevent other trees on the surrounding area being infected. Remove DeadwoodRemove dead, dying or diseased wood, broken branches and stubs left from previous tree pruning operations, provided such material exceeds 10mm in diameter or 100mm in length. Hedge TrimmingThe trimming and tidying of hedges, this may also include the reduction of the height of the hedge as required. |
